Hydrolyzed Polymaleic Anhydride (HPMA)

Hydrolyzed Polymaleic Anhydride (HPMA)

CAS: 26099-09-02

Properties
Hydrolyzed polymaleic anhydride (HPMA) is an organic fatty acid polymer, and its molecular weight is 400 - 800. It is easily soluble in water, and has high chemical and thermal stability. As its decomposition temperature is above 330°C, it performs obvious threshold effects even under high temperature of lower than 350°C and high pH (8.3). Hydrolyzed polymaleic anhydride has good scale inhibition against carbonates and phosphates, and the effective time is up to 100 hours. It can be used together with the dehydration demulsifier for crude oil. It is a bit toxic and has no carcinogenesis. In addition, it is degradable and the degradation products are harmless to humans and animals.

Applications
Hydrolyzed polymaleic anhydride is mainly used in circulating cooling water, oilfield water injection, crude oil dehydration and furnace internal treatment of low-pressure boiler. It has good scale inhibition, and the scale inhibition rate is up to 98%. When mixed with 1 - 2mg/L of zinc salts, it can effectively inhibit corrosion of carbon steel. It can also be used as a bleaching agent in textile industry to reduce the dust content of textiles.
